Our mission is to put your needs first and enable you to learn the inner workings of the legal system so that you can receive justice, peace of mind, and a good recovery when filing a personal injury case.

If you are searching for the best personal injury lawyer in California, we at Jacoby & Meyers have been protecting the legal rights of accident victims by pursuing high settlements since 1976. We have continually aimed to provide the highest quality service to this day.

Big Settlements Won By Us

Our track record is immaculate because we don’t settle for less. We have recovered more than $1,000,000,000 for our clients.

  • $19.0 MILLION from a rideshare passenger vs. auto accident causing quadriplegia
  • $17.5 MILLION from a bike vs. truck accident causing paraplegia
  • $13.0 MILLION from a wrongful death vs. city case
  • $11.9 MILLION from a wrongful death vs. truck accident case

What is a Personal Injury Claim?

A personal injury claim is a legal action you may pursue if you were injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence. We have expertise in handling high-stakes accident cases, such as the following:

  • car accidents,
  • motorcycle accidents,
  • truck accidents,
  • pedestrian accidents,
  • ridesharing accidents,
  • wrongful death,
  • slip and fall,
  • and other accident practice areas.

What Types of Compensation Can I Receive from a Personal Injury Claim?

Generally, you may consider three types of damages when calculating your total settlement from a personal injury claim, namely:

  • economic damages (financial losses),
  • non-economic damages (non-monetary losses), and
  • punitive damages (costs awarded to victims as imposed by the court).

Our attorneys will examine your case and determine which damages can be considered to maximize your payout.

How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency basis. That is a payment method where your lawyer’s fee depends on the case’s outcome. If the at-fault party’s insurance provider declines your claim, you won’t need to shoulder your attorney’s fees.

We at Jacoby & Meyers are here to serve you. You will only pay for our services if we win your case.

The Jacoby & Meyers Difference

You may be wondering why we are the best personal injury lawyers in California. The answer lies in how we serve our clients.

Here at our firm, we have curated a smooth legal process where you will understand your rights and receive the justice you deserve. We strive to do the following to provide you with the best service:

  • Communicate every legal step along the way.
  • Handle your property damage by dealing with insurance companies.
  • Assist in your medical needs by consistently recommending the appropriate treatments as advised by your doctor.
  • Help with other needs, such as car assistance, to lessen the burden of the accident.
  • Protect your legal rights by proving liability, calculating the total damages, and defending your claim.

Car Accidents

One of the most common personal injury claims we handle is car accident cases. Some auto collisions may result in minor injuries, while others may be more complicated and life-altering.

What to Do After a Car Accident

Being in a car accident caused by another driver’s negligence may be frustrating and confusing. However, there are steps you might want to follow to alleviate the challenges of a car accident:

  • Stop your vehicle immediately.
  • Move your car to a safe area nearby if possible.
  • Check if there are any victims injured in the accident.
  • Call 911 immediately.
  • Exchange information with the other driver, such as the driver’s license number, home address, and car insurance provider.
  • Obtain the contact information of any witnesses.
  • Take photos of the accident scene.
  • Contact a personal injury lawyer to assist with your car accident claim.

How to Prove Car Accident Cases

You can only prove a car accident claim by justifying that the other driver’s negligence caused the accident. You can do this if you have sufficient evidence to prove the driver’s negligence.

Jacoby & Meyers has the resources to investigate your accident and gather evidence to support your claim. We have expert attorneys who work with investigators to examine your case.

What Happens if I’m Partially At-Fault for the Accident?

California practices pure comparative negligence. That means victims have the right to file car accident claims regardless of how much they are liable for the damages. For instance, a driver who is 60% responsible for a car crash may still receive 40% compensation.

When determining the settlement value, you will need a personal injury lawyer who can identify all possible damages and calculate the total compensation value of your car accident claim.

Who Pays for the Damages If the At-Fault Driver Has No Insurance?

If an uninsured driver hits you, you may still receive compensation for the damages from the collision by using your insurance policy. This is especially true if you are able to secure uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. This type of coverage pays for your medical bills, vehicle repair or replacement costs, and lost wages in case an uninsured driver hits you.

While some may think that it is unnecessary to hire a lawyer if you’re recovering compensation from your insurance policy, most victims receive a reduced amount when they work independently. This is because insurance companies tend to lessen the settlement or completely dismiss your case to save their finances.

Our personal injury lawyers can assist you when filing a car accident claim against your insurance provider. We can communicate with your insurance company and defend your claim for you to retrieve the total compensation amount your car accident is worth.

Our firm has triumphed in car accident cases, with settlements ranging from $1,100,000 to $4,500,000.

Motorcycle Accidents

Did you know motorcycle riders are more likely to be injured than vehicle occupants in an auto collision? This is because their bodies are more exposed to danger than a vehicle driver’s. If you are involved in a motor vehicle crash, the following information will be beneficial when filing a motorcycle accident claim.

How Is Negligence Established in a Motorcycle Accident?

When pursuing a motorcycle accident claim, you must establish that the other driver’s negligence caused the crash. Essentially, you will need to prove the following elements of negligence to receive restitution for the damages, namely:

  • The driver had the responsibility to ensure that all road users were safe.
  • They failed to fulfill this duty.
  • The breach caused the motorcycle accident.
  • The accident resulted in injuries and other damages.

Some motorcyclists incur significant injuries from the crash, making it physically impossible to secure evidence at the accident scene to support their motorcycle accident claim. When this happens, personal injury lawyers can prove liability by collecting evidence for your case.

We at Jacoby and Meyers have experienced accident lawyers who can investigate your case, gather evidence, and prove liability to win your motorcycle accident claim.

How Much Should You Settle for After a Motorcycle Accident?

Your settlement value will depend on the severity of your case. In most cases, your compensation amount depends on the following factors:

  • the severity of your injuries,
  • the costs of your property damage,
  • the coverage of the insurance policy, and
  • the negligent driver’s degree of fault.

Typically, a personal injury lawyer will determine the severity of your case by identifying the following damages:

Economic Damages

  • past, present, and future medical bills,
  • vehicle repair or replacement costs,
  • lost wages,
  • future loss of income, and
  • out-of-pocket expenses.

Non-Economic Damages

  • pain and suffering,
  • emotional distress,
  • loss of life quality
  • loss of a limb or a sense
  • permanent disability, and
  • disfigurement.

While it may seem challenging to compute, our personal injury lawyers can calculate financial losses and quantify non-economic damages to maximize your payout. Our team won a settlement worth $11,000,000 for one motorcycle accident claim alone.

How Long Does a Motorcycle Accident Claim Take to Settle?

A motorcycle accident claim may take weeks, months, or years to settle, depending on the complexity of the case. A motorcycle crash resulting in significant injuries may take longer to resolve than a collision with only minor property damages.

The following factors come into play when determining the time it takes to settle a motorcycle accident claim:

  • availability of sufficient evidence to prove negligence,
  • negotiation with the insurance provider, and
  • The severity of your injuries and other damages.

Since you may only pursue a motorcycle accident claim two years after the crash, a personal injury lawyer from our firm can guide you through the appropriate legal steps to avoid missing the deadline.

Truck Accidents

Trucks can cause severe injuries or wrongful death when caught in an accident because of their size and weight. Read the details below about truck accident claims to help you retrieve your total compensation.

What to Do After a Truck Accident

Truck accidents can pose significant risks. This is why it is essential to keep these steps in mind when you are hit by a truck:

  • Seek medical treatment and dial 911 immediately.
  • If possible, relocate to a safe area nearby.
  • Collect the driver’s name, contact information, and trucking business, if applicable.
  • Gather evidence, such as photos of the accident scene and witness testimony.
  • File a report of the accident.
  • Contact a legal professional for assistance with your truck accident claim.

Who Can Be Held Liable for a Truck Accident?

Several parties can be held liable for a truck accident depending on the circumstances of the case, such as:

  • The truck driver if they violated a trucking standard or protocol.
  • The trucking company if they failed to do one or more of the following:
    • facilitate proper truck driver training,
    • maintain the trucks in good working condition,
    • and upgrade truck parts when necessary.
    • carry the appropriate freight weight.
    • created strict driving schedules where truck drivers had limited time to rest.

Our personal injury lawyers can help examine the cause of your accident and pursue a truck accident claim against the party liable for the crash.

What is the Average Settlement For Truck Accidents?

While the compensation amount depends on the severity of the accident, a truck accident claim for non-fatal bodily injuries can be worth around $200,000. On the other hand, a severe truck crash with fatalities can cost millions of dollars.

When calculating your settlement, consider financial and non-monetary losses to maximize your payout. Our lawyers can also determine if you are qualified for punitive damages. That is, costs are given to victims if the court finds the negligent party’s actions malicious or extreme. Our team successfully defended a truck accident claim worth $17,500,000.

What Are the Challenges of a Truck Accident Claim?

Handling a truck accident claim takes work, especially if you are fighting against a large company in an injured state. The following are the most common challenges in truck accident claims:

  • Lack of evidence
    • Most victims suffer significant injuries from truck accidents. This hinders them from collecting the necessary evidence at the accident scene.
  • Pressure from insurance companies
    • If you are filing a truck accident claim against a large company, they have the capacity and resources to hire a legal team to intimidate you into taking a reduced settlement.
  • Taking advantage of the injured state
    • Typically, victims need funds to cover their current medical costs and other recovery-related expenses. Insurance providers then take advantage of the situation by offering reduced compensation to pay for these immediate fees and liabilities only.

We at Jacoby and Meyers have the passion and mission to defend accident victims against insurance companies and help them attain the justice they deserve by receiving maximum compensation.

Slip and Fall

A slip-and-fall claim falls under premises liability. This is a legal action taken if you experience an accident on someone else’s property due to another party’s negligence. If you are involved in a slip-and-fall accident, the following information may help you identify the appropriate legal options for your case.

What to Do After a Slip-and-Fall

While slip-and-fall accidents may seem like minor incidents, some falls can cause severe fractures and head injuries. This is why it is essential to follow these steps to help ensure your safety and take legal action accordingly:

  • Check if you have injuries.
  • Roll up if you can.
  • Call 911 or other emergency services for help.
  • Gather evidence, such as photos of the accident and witness statements.
  • File an accident report.
  • Contact a personal injury lawyer.

Who is Liable for a Slip-and-Fall Accident

You may file a slip-and fall-claim if you are involved in an accident caused by another individual’s negligence on someone else’s property. However, you must identify and prove liability to successfully win your case.

The following can be held liable for a slip-and-fall accident:

  • Property owners who were responsible for maintaining their premises and ensuring their visitors’ and clients’ safety.
  • The lessee of a property if they had the duty to take care of the leased property.
  • The local government was responsible for keeping public roads in good condition.

Depending on the circumstances of your accident, these parties can be held liable for a slip-and-fall. However, you will need the help of a personal injury lawyer to collect evidence and prove liability, especially if you couldn’t gather proof during the incident.

How to Prove a Slip-and-Fall Accident

To receive compensation for your accident, you must prove that another party is liable for your fall. Essentially, you may raise a slip-and-fall claim under the following conditions:

  • The owner or tenant either:
    • caused the hazards,
    • was aware of it, or
  • should have been aware of it if they fulfilled their legal duty to ensure everyone’s safety on the premises.
  • They failed to tend to the hazards, given that there was a reasonable chance to do so.
  • The breach of this duty caused a slip-and-fall accident.
  • The fall resulted in injuries.

Our firm has experienced lawyers who can examine your accident and retrieve evidence to support your claim.

How Much Is a Slip-and-Fall Accident Claim Worth?

In California, the average slip-and-fall settlement varies from $15,000 to $50,000. However, your compensation amount will depend on the severity of your injuries and the nature of your case.

Generally, a slip-and-fall settlement relies on the following factors:

  • the past, present, and future financial losses caused by the fall, and
  • the non-monetary damages experienced by the victim.

To consider all types of damages, you must hire a personal injury lawyer who can investigate your case, determine the losses you suffered, and compute these to maximize your settlement. Here at Jacoby & Meyers, we have conquered slip-and-fall claims with settlements worth $1,900,000 to $3,250,000.

Jacoby & Meyers stepped up!
I was hit by a drunk driver while driving my company's car. I called Jacoby & Meyers, a couple of days later I was receiving treatment. My medical bills were 3x the amount of the coverage that the other driver had but Jacoby & Meyers still got me a great settlement. January 7, 2023 will be a year since my accident and Jacoby & Meyers stepped up! Worker Comp has not even though they told me to stop treatment with Jacoby & Meyers. I pray I don't ever need an injury lawyer again but if I do I'm calling you, Jacoby & Meyers.

I was very happy about how hard they worked on my case.
I would recommend Jacoby & Meyers to anyone that has been in an accident. I was in a bad accident earlier this year that totaled my car and left me hurting. I didn't really know what to do but one of my friends recommended J&M to me so I gave them a call and they helped me every step of the way and answered what ever questions I had. I was very happy about how hard they worked on my case. Thank you, Jacoby & Meyers.
