Call the police right away. Simply call 911, especially if you’re involved in a serious car accident. The dispatcher who answers your call will send a local New York police officer or a state trooper from the New York State Police to your crash site. The investigating officer or trooper will fill out your official New York State Report of Motor Vehicle Accident, an important piece of evidence. When you call 911, the dispatcher can also send an ambulance if you or anyone else got hurt in your crash. And even if you feel fine, make sure you have a doctor examine you. Many serious car accident injuries take several hours or days to develop.
